And today's hero is...

One Cardinals player has been lighting it up day in and day out recently, and I'm going to change my lineup predictions yet again.  After reading into it more, batting .429 with 5 RBI's in the leadoff spot in Spring Training so far has me excited about none other than outfielder Skip Schumaker.  As much of a fan of Colby Rasmus and Juan Gonzalez as I am, I think that outfield spot belongs to Skip.  The kid is playing his tail off and making a run at the leadoff hole come opening day, and I like the idea.  I would still love to see Rasmus in St. Louis, but hey, we all know what happens when you put a young guy on a team and put all the pressure on him.  Of course, things turned out okay for Rick Ankiel...and yes, this is a different situation, but thinking further on the matter, there's no reason to rush Colby.  If he makes it, great, but I really think it's smarter to be conservative regarding his future.  Get him some AAA starts at Memphis and bring him up in September...or sooner if God forbid any reason Albert Pujols gets hurt (moving Duncan to 1st and Colby to left field).

AP will be fine. Let's not jinx him. As for Skip, put him in. We got a couple weeks left but I know TLR is really looking for a spark in that leadoff spot. Hasn't he been pretty adamant about having Rasmus start in AAA this season? Seems like everything I've read has pointed to him being called up later.

All this youth on the team gets me excited. This is NOT a rebuilding year. We will be competitive.

Go Cards!
